A trip to the shore

Recently I travelled to the Jersey shore and visited two homes in which I have done much custom framing.  I thought that you might like to take a look!  Click on the photo to view larger.

Whispering Woods Gallery captures a First Place in Design Star 2015

Whispering Woods Gallery won first place in the Textiles category at Design Star in Las Vegas January 26, 2015.

We are delighted to announce that Whispering Woods Gallery won first place in the Textiles category at the Design Star Competition hosted by Larson Juhl on January 26, 2015.  This competition gave framers the opportunity to showcase their design skills.  Framers entered by submitting digital photos of their entries in seven categories: Objects, Mirrors, Textiles, Documents, Art on Canvas, Art on Paper and Photography.

It was an exciting night at the West Coast Art and Frame Show in Las Vegas and hundreds from the international framing community were in attendance.  The event was emceed by Greg Perkins CPF, Marketing Manager for Larson Juhl and author of “Great Frame Design.”  Awards were given by Drew Van Pelt, CEO at Larson Juhl.  There were close to 900 entries internationally.

The winning framed textile piece by Whispering Woods Gallery was a blackwork stitchery stitched by Susan Gittlen MCPF and framed in Larson Juhl’s Marais line of moulding.  The piece was so popular at the shop that several customers stitched their own versions from the pattern. It is on display at the shop.

In 2014, Susan Gittlen of Whispering Woods Gallery captured two third place awards in the Photography and Documents categories.  She was also a judge in the Mirrors category for 2015.  A framed design specially designed by Susan for the event was displayed.

Whispering Woods Gallery is located in Holland, Bucks County, Pennsylvania.  Whispering Woods Gallery is a family owned and operated custom frame shop established in 1986 winning numerous framing design awards and employing the only Master Certified Picture Framer in the Philadelphia area.

Signs of Summer

One of my favorite local artists, Karen Eckelmeyer, creates art that lets you celebrate summer all year round.  Every time I view the art of Karen Eckelmeyer, it takes me to a warm and sunny place at the shore.  Karen, a Bucks County, Pa resident, is self taught and works in colored pencil. It is easy to mistake her detailed work as being a photograph. Her fine art giclee prints of shells, stones and plants are timeless and will fascinate for years to come.  Give Sue a call for further information.

Some Vintage Postcard Fun

Many of you know that I enjoy working with vintage postcards. Linen era cards from the 30’s and 40’s are my favorites. Thinking of a project? I’m happy to help. I can frame your cards, or select from my extensive inventory. If I don’t have what you need, I’ll find you the perfect ones from other vendors. Here are a few framed pieces that I have created that showcase vintage postcards.

A Winning Trip to Vegas

Here are some photos of my recent trip to our annual framing trade show and conference in Las Vegas in January 2014.

Philadelphia Freedom

Philadelphia Freedom poster
Sometimes simple is better.

We recently recently framed this Philadelphia Freedom poster for Joe of Elkins Park.  This is a limited edition serigraph poster by Aaron Draplin that would make all Philadelphia fans proud.  Those who know Whispering Woods Gallery know that we can frame the most complicated of  projects.  However this piece did not warrant complicated framing.  Sometimes simple is better.

For the matting we carefully matched the gold of the image and selected a one with a slight rippled texture.  A simple square matching deep blue metal frame surrounds the piece.  With so much fun with the Philadelphia logos, the matting and framing should not distract from the enjoyment of these fine Philadelphia symbols.  With a UV protecting glass and archival matboard this will bring many years of enjoyment for Joe.  Philly soft pretzel anyone?

Boat House Row 7 by Nicholas Santoleri

Boat House Row image
Boat House Row 7 by Nicholas Santoleri

This is the seventh major watercolor painting completed and reproduced in print by the artist, over a 23 year span. Boathouse Row is one of the most picturesque sites in the Philadelphia area.  The 15 quaint and colorful boathouses on the Schuylkill river often seem like a picture postcard when driving by. However, on race days, the houses come alive with activity, the river is filled with rowers, and the shores are lined with spectators.  In the evening, the calm returns, and the lights that outline the houses cast a luminous reflection on the river.

The image size of Boat House Row 7 is 13 1/4 x 28″.  The edition size is 1750 and each print is priced at $150.  We are currently taking orders and offer it framed or unframed.  Order early for holiday delivery.

In Memory of Charlie

Watermelons by Charlie Bofinger
Framed Watermelons by Charles Bofinger

Whispering Woods  Gallery lost a good friend on May 27, 2013.  Artist Charlie Bofinger of Feasterville was a frequent visitor at our shop.  Charlie always had great stories about WWII, and being in advertising in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.  He was a source of inspiration and in short, one of Whispering Woods Gallery’s best cheerleaders.  We will miss him and share his loss with his family.

We recently framed this beautiful serigraph by Charlie  for Caren of Holland.  It will look amazing in her shore home.  The clear colored matting and radiant green metal frame were a perfect selection.

To see the work of Charles Bofinger, we have his art shown here.
