Happy Birthday Dad

To my siblings and I, Dad was a hero. He lost his Dad at age three and then grew up in the Great Depression. He was proud to be accepted to Penn State and was immediately drafted during his first term. He fought bravely in Europe in WWII, survived his carrier ship being torpedoed on December 24, 1944 with the loss of 800 of his fellow servicemen. His military service earned him a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Moving on, he returned to the US, finished Penn State, married my lovely mom and became a dad to the three of us. His family always came first and he was always there for us. Sadly he passed away in 1991.

If you ever visit our shop you will see some beautifully framed photos of our dad and other family members. They have inspired so many vintage photograph projects over the years. In honor of his 100th birthday we celebrate our dad, Harold Gittlen.
